SO-CALLED RAPHAEL HOUSE

CASA COSIDDETTA DI RAFFAELLO
Built by Antonio Cordini aka Antonio da Sangallo the Younger (1483/1546) on the site where Raffaello Sanzio (Raphael) (1483/1520) wanted to build a house for himself
"Shortly before his death he purchased the lease rights on the land on the corner of Via Giulia and Via dei Cimatori, which would accommodate two distinct buildings, the first of which, with the front on "Strada Julia" for the home and workshop of the artist, and the second, probably, for apartments to rent. Once he abandoned his earlier home in the Borgo, Palazzo Caprini, Raphael could have made the most of the contacts that the Florentines' district offered, swarming of highly skilled craftsmen and wealthy people, who would soon be able to transform into many prestigious clients for his works" (Vincenzo Morelli)
